Gramma J Update

I know this news doesn't fit exactly in the RMCJJ blog, but all of you know my Gramma J, so I thought I'd give you an update.

She is now 95 years old.

This spring she fell and broke her leg. It was a serious break that required surgery. The surgeon was hesitant to even do the surgery. He said she probably would not live six more months. She came through the surgery better than expected, recovered quicker than expected, and is doing great.

She's still mentally very sharp.

She lives in an assisted living group home with a family and two other elderly ladies. She isn't walking again yet, but, as you can see from the update (below) I received from my aunt and uncle this morning, she has that as a goal.

(She's always really happy when we come to visit. It's never "where have you been?")

Here's the update:
Dr. H's office just called and said Gram/Sis/Aunt Wilma has been released from his care and she can bear as much weight as she can tolerate. She is free to try to stand and walk again. Therapists will come to work with her now. She made an agreement with Danny that if he could help her to walk again, she would wash the dishes. No more x-rays or follow up visits are necessary.Guess she showed them didn't she. In the hospital he felt that with or without the surgery she would only last another 6 months or so because that is what happens to elderly people who have severe fractures. She certainly hasn't declined since her fall.
